The New Focal XS Book Desktop Monitor arrives

The XS Book is a full-range, user friendly, great sounding and energy efficient pair of powered desktop monitor loudspeakers designed for the music lover as well as the hobbyist music creator.

The performance of the XS Book comes as a result of all the development work carried out for the Focal CMS40 professional nearfield monitor. The XS Book follows the successful multimedia system the Focal XS 2.1 – a two sats and a sub system.  The XS Book is a more compact powered two-speaker system delivering a bass response and impact quite staggering for its size.

Equipped with an aluminium dome tweeter and a 4” (10cm) Polyglass cone woofer, XS Book has a wide bandwidth of 50Hz to 22kHz. It has the linearity of an ideal small monitor with a maximum sound pressure level of 96dB SPL at 1m: easily enough for nearfield multimedia applications. XS Book can also be used as a speaker system to match a flat panel TV to vastly improve TV or movie sound quality.

One of the secrets to the XS Book’s performance is the vented port with a complex shape modelled by CAD to ensure laminar flow in order not to generate airflow noise and to maximise efficacy.

An integral high-performance 2×20 Watt amplifier is included giving crisp and detailed high frequencies and a solid weighty low end.

The cabinet and build are surprisingly strong and rigid, ensuring fine dynamics and low colouration.

A single multi-function knob allows control of volume as well as power/standby.

As more and more music and video is available on the home and office computer it becomes more essential to have a pair of accurate and truthful monitor speakers connected.  As an example it’s good to know that the recent download of a live gig sounds good before transferring it to the main music store for around the house streaming.Focal XS Book is supplied with necessary cables: 3.5mm jack from computer to XS Book and a 1.5m RCA cable (and a 1.5m extension cable) to connect one speaker to the other.
A carrier bag and a taller stand (for large dimension screens) are available as options.
XS Book is compatible with the Omnimount AB2 standard to allow easy wall mounting should it be required.
